International Science Photo Contest for Youth: MILSET STEAM Photo Contest 2026
Young people from Latvia between the ages of 13 and 25 can participate in the international MILSET STEAM Photo Contest 2026.
🇱🇻 Participants from Latvia are also welcome.
✅ Registration is online and free of charge.
🔬 The contest theme combines photography, science, and technology.
The goal of the contest is to use photography to depict a scientific phenomenon or idea in a way that is both visually interesting and understandable to the viewer.
Who can participate?
The contest is international and open to young people aged 13 to 25.
Both members of MILSET organizations and young people not affiliated with MILSET are welcome to participate.
📸 What can you photograph?
The photograph must clearly depict a concept or phenomenon in the STEAM field.
Possible themes:
* biology and health sciences;
* nature, the environment, and ecosystems;
* chemistry and physics;
* engineering;
* computer science and robotics;
* Earth sciences;
* astronomy and space;
* macro and microphotography.
This could be a drop of water, the refraction of light, the structure of a plant, magnetism, motion, the anatomy of an insect, or any other scientific phenomenon observed in everyday life.
📮 What can be submitted?
Each participant may submit up to three photographs.
Each image must be accompanied by:
* a title in English;
* a brief description in English of up to 300 characters;
* the selected science category;
* information about the author and country.
The description must be written by the participant themselves. Descriptions generated by artificial intelligence or written with the help of AI are not permitted.
Photos must be at least 2,500 pixels wide, without watermarks or text on the image. Cropping, exposure, and color correction are permitted, but no significant content may be added or removed.
The contest rules specify that human faces must not be visible in the photographs.
🏆 Awards
The jury will award first, second, and third place, as well as a People’s Choice Award.
No cash or photography equipment prizes are currently specified. The fifteen highest-rated photos:
🖼 will be exhibited in the MILSET virtual gallery
📚 may be published in the MILSET Journal of Science Engagement
🌍 will be promoted through MILSET’s international programs
