Weather Photographer of the Year 2026: A Free Contest for Photographers from Latvia
The Royal Meteorological Society has announced the Weather Photographer of the Year 2026—an international weather and climate photography contest.
🇱🇻 Photographers from Latvia are also welcome to participate.
✅ Participation is free.
💷 The grand prize is 1,500 pounds sterling.
The contest is looking for images that capture the power, beauty, and impact of weather on people and the environment.
Can I enter from Latvia? Yes.
The contest is open to photographers from all countries, regardless of experience level. Both professionals and amateurs can participate.
📸 Categories
Weather Photographer of the Year — the main category for the most impressive weather photograph.
Mobile Weather Photographer of the Year — for photos taken with a phone or tablet.
Climate Award — for works that tell the story of climate change and its impact.
Public Favorite — an audience award determined by public vote.
In Latvia, the following subjects would be well-suited for the contest:
* thunderstorms and lightning;
* fog, frost, and snowstorms;
* storms along the Baltic Sea coast;
* unusual clouds and optical phenomena;
* floods, droughts, or heat waves;
* the impact of weather conditions on cities, rural areas, and people.
📮 What can you submit?
You may submit up to five photos in each category.
For the 2026 contest, we accept images taken within the five years prior to the contest deadline.
Submit a file with the highest possible resolution, along with information about the location, circumstances, and story behind the photograph.
Images generated by artificial intelligence are not permitted. AI tools may also not be used to add, move, or remove objects.

💷 500 — Winner of Mobile Weather Photographer of the Year
💷 500 — Winner of the Climate Award
The best entries will also receive international exposure through the contest’s channels and those of the Royal Meteorological Society.

Entries may be submitted until August 20, 2026.
Finalists and the results of the public vote are scheduled to be announced in mid-October, while the winners will be announced on November 17.
